Aedes aegypti is known to transmit dengue virus, yellow fever virus, chikungunya virus, and Zika virus. Aedes is dark coloured and has typical white markings on the legs and lyre like markings on the thorax. It is significantly smaller in size, being only 4 to 7 mm long. In this species, the female mosquitoes are longer than males. The average lifespan of an Aedes mosquito in nature is two weeks. These mosquitos can lay eggs about three times in its lifetime, and about 100 eggs are produced each time. Aedes tend to be the most active during the daytime, and it is said that the most likely chances of infection happen during the morning and afternoon hours. As per studies, the mosquito is most active during the daytime, approximately two hours after sunrise and several hours before sunset.
